Brave Spaces
In this space
We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world,
We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere,
We call each other to more truth and love.
We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.
We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.
We will not be perfect.
This space will not be perfect.
It will not always be what we wish it to be.
But
It will be our brave space together,
and
We will work on it side by side.
Poem by Micky Scott Bey Jones based on Beth Strano’s original work describing what you can expect from Brave Spaces.
Brave Spaces is a two-year test-and-learn project that will support women facing multiple disadvantages, homelessness, trauma, domestic and sexual violence and abuse.
The ‘Women First’ project which has been supporting women who are rough sleeping, sofa surfing or living in temporary accommodation since 2019 has evolved. We have created further alliances with even more organisations to better support women who face multiple disadvantages across North Devon & Torridge.
Working in partnership with Exeter’s CoLab Women, we have become Brave Spaces.
A project supporting women facing homelessness, domestic abuse or sexual violence has expanded to help more women regain their lives and live without fear or anxiety of abuse.
Brave Spaces incorporates the Women First project run by Encompass Southwest, Mind, and North Devon Against Domestic Abuse (NDADA) and it has grown to include new partners COLAB Exeter and Surviving Abuse Northern Devon (SAND)
